John Stevenson is the Associate Director for Research Services at the UW Survey Center. In this capacity, he is responsible for managing the overall operation of the Center’s projects. This includes management of the yearly $6-7 million dollar budget, overall supervision of 40+ full-time and 150-200 part-time staff members, business development, project coordination, budgetary monitoring, staff recruitment and development, and quality control assurance. He is our first line of contact for potential work, and is responsible for developing cost proposals for the Center.

Mr. Stevenson has been Associate Director since 1999, after serving as a Project Director for UWSC for five years. John was named MAPOR fellow in 2017 and received the mid-career award from the College of Letters & Science in 2009. John has a UW-Madison bachelor’s degree in Sociology, with a certificate in the Concentration in Analysis and Research (1988), and has done graduate coursework at the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin. He has more than 25 years of experience in survey research. Prior to joining UWSC, he worked for CBS News and The New York Times in New York as a research consultant and for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, conducting phone surveys, mail surveys and analyzing data for policy makers. He is also a trained and skilled focus group facilitator.
