DNR Boating Study

CLIENT

Dr. Edward Nelson, WI Department of Natural Resources

DESCRIPTION

The 2002 Recreational Boating Study was a re-interview of a sub-set of registered boaters in Wisconsin who were part of the 2000 DNR Boating Study. Sampled boaters were sent an advance letter explaining the study, a full mailing with a cover letter and one-page (front and back) questionnaire, and a reminder mailing with a follow-up letter and a replacement questionnaire. Boaters were asked to give information about their boating activities and gasoline consumption in a specific two-week period during this summer. The response rate for the four groups of sampled boaters ranged from 65.2% to 68.9%. Data collected were used to verify the formula for the transfer of gasoline excise taxes to the state outdoor recreation programs.
